What's to Come.....

Journal Entry: Fri Jul 18, 2008, 5:22 PM
Ok, so, I'm not really one for doing Sketches. In all honesty, all the pieces you see in my Gallery have all pretty much started out as an idea I had lingering in my brain for weeks before I sat down (mostly at work..the hellhole I no longer work at too) to get to work on them. And all were drawn straight onto my 11x17 Bristol. sure, I'd start out sketching bits and pieces, usually just the layout of the figure, and then let everything else work itself out as I went along. Takes forever this way, but I've gotten the job done.

Lately though, I've been doing things a bit differently. A couple of weeks ago I mentioned going in and doing another Tooned Tiki piece, a little Homage to "The Sorcerers Apprentice" that I've always loved since I was a kid. I mean hell, I used to play the Atari game like crazy as a kid. well, that piece is still in the planning process, but has taken a back seat to something else. 2 Weeks ago, as I layed in ned trying to go to sleep, which is usually the time my brain kicks into Creative overload Mode, I started thinking of a little back story to go along with the Tooned Pieces (and I say pieces because I intend to keep them going longer than just 2.). And thus, the story began. Now, I ahven't written anything for it yet, but I have been working in my sketchbook more often now than I have in a long time tying to get some details and other things worked out for it. Of which I will be putting them up here shortly.
So, when you see these sketches, keep in mind that to me..they are sketches. Some guys do really rough layouts with so many lines going through them as they work out the shapes, I jsut can't do that. To me it's the perfectionist mentality. Even if I try to do something Rough, it winds up looking more finished than anything.
It's my hope that if I keep this up, I may actually be able to go ahead and do the actual panel work taht I've been longing to for years. And it's a bit of a fun story I guess. Still working out the details, but I'll try and keep everyone who bothers up to date as far as it goes. Workin on the Badguy of the book right now, and I'll be posting my Progress later today.

Later guys.

Welp, after much ego pumping over the last couple days from little Ms.=longlivethisnerd, I've decided to give a little color, with Colored pencils and maybe some Watercolors here and there, to my Tooned piece. I'll see how it goes and throw it up here sometime tomorrow if possible.

So wish me luck. I ain't colored anything, seriously, in years. I haven't even painted anything since Senior year of High School in '96. Hope to God I don't screw up too bad. And if I do, well, I'm slightly color blind, though most people just don't understand it...nor do they believe me....and god does that piss me off.

Check ya'all later,

What a Week....

So, obviously the comic world is still reeling from the Loss of Michael Turner. That's a hurt no one will ever get over. Sure, it'll subside, but the scar will never go away.

After thinking about it quite a bit since early Saturday Morning, I thought back to the Day I went to the Top Cow offices to see Renae Geerlings and show off my inks to her, and get some photocopies of some stuff to do...and get a grand tour of the studio. On my way home, I stopped off at an Art store just down the street from Universal City Walk, and bought a new technical pencil and some 4H leads for it, because I knew Mike used it for his work. still have those leads too. think I've got 2 left out of the 3 I bought. And several other things, but those leads are the only thing that comes to mind.

Anyway, today was no different. Upon leaving the apartment today, one of my neighbors was outside on the sidewalk, and sitting outside on a bench in the doorway was what seemed to be a homeless guy passed out. Well, it wasn't. It was another neighbor, a quit man really, who lived with his sister here in the building, and he was dead. I was just staring at him as I held the door open, not really knowing what was going on. Then the firetruck came, followed shortly by the parademics. When I returned home, 4 cop cars were parked on the street, and the front door was taped off and covered with a forensics officer standing right there with her camera around her neck.
Actually, right now at 8:30 pm, the cops are still there, and apparently the hearse was outside too. Looks more like a Mini Van from what I'm seeing.
This week's already looking to be a bad one....

In other News...My MUGged piece is finally done. It was a complete Nightmare as far as the Inks go. I had to redraw her face again for like the 5th time before I inked it, then I had to spend WAAAAYYYYYY too much on corrections on the damn thing. Looks better than it had previously obviously. Even went so far as to add in white details I didn't think of in pencils. I've also finished the tweaks on the Batman cover, and have just one more tweak to do on one of the Shrugged pages of Micah Gunnell's for SD. After that, probably getting to them tonight, I'll be working on the Inks for "Li'l Ms. Muffit" and "Pirate's Booty II" So all these will be done and up this week sometime. they really shouldn't take too long.

Later guys.

the Heat is On....

Journal Entry: Fri Jun 20, 2008, 7:51 PM
...And damn do I HATE IT!!!!!!! I don't know about everyone else, but here in the Valley of LA, I can't seem to get much done the past few days cuz this heat is just knocking me on my arse. Granted I haven't slept much in the past couple days either. Last night I had a really difficult time cuz it was hot as hell, even at 2am, but I couldn't even get my brain to shut off. Had to get up and jot a note down really quick for a new pic I have in mind to continue the Tiki Goodies, and it's a Halloween pic paying Homage to one of my alltime FAvorite Disney pieces "the Sorcerer's Apprentice".

The whole idea, and some others, kept me up for hours. But today I'm trying to get my "Tooned" piece Inked up. Just have to finish doing the holding lines on her, then spot blacks an I'm done. Should be up no later than Sunday. Welp, that's it from me. Ya'll have a great weekend, and I'll hot ya back later.
